F.A.Q.

Ozone therapy (or oxygen–ozone therapy) is a medical technique that uses a mixture of oxygen and ozone to produce anti-inflammatory, analgesic, immunomodulating, and vasodilating effects.

Ozone reacts with biological components, forming peroxides and activating antioxidant responses, stimulating microcirculation, improving tissue oxygenation, and promoting regeneration.

  • Anti-inflammatory / analgesic action: reduces chronic pain and inflammation.

  • Improved microcirculation and tissue oxygenation: enhances oxygen transport to where it is needed.

  • Antimicrobial / antiviral action: ozone can inactivate viruses, bacteria, and other microorganisms in localized contexts.

  • Support in musculoskeletal disorders: useful in low back pain, neck pain, discopathy, osteoarthritis, tendinopathies.

  • Immune system stimulation / cytokine modulation: ozone influences cytokine production and immune responses.

Ozone therapy can be used as a complementary treatment in various conditions, including:

  • Musculoskeletal pain (low back pain, neck pain, herniated disc)

  • Osteoarthritis, degenerative joint diseases

  • Skin ulcers, chronic lesions, wound-healing problems, venous insufficiency

  • Conditions where a local antimicrobial effect is beneficial (injured tissues, topical applications)

  • Integrated therapies within oncological protocols (as supportive treatment)

(Note: ozone therapy is not a universal cure; it must be prescribed and performed by qualified medical personnel.)

Ozone administration is generally well tolerated when performed by experienced practitioners following proper protocols. Possible side effects, usually mild and temporary, include:

  • Burning sensation, heaviness, or slight local discomfort that quickly subsides

  • Bruising / hematomas from needle insertion, as with any injection

  • Tingling or “electric shock” sensation if a nerve is accidentally stimulated

  • Transient vagal reactions (low blood pressure, sweating) caused by patient stress during injection

  • Rare effects such as tachycardia, temporary malaise, or muscle pain reported in some cases, often linked to incorrect dosages or technical errors

(Important: ozone does not cause allergic reactions, as it is a gas composed only of modified oxygen.)

Although the therapy is generally safe, some conditions are considered contraindications or require caution:

  • Pregnancy (especially in the first months)

  • Favism (G6PD deficiency)

  • Unstable epilepsy / active convulsive forms

  • Untreated clinically evident hyperthyroidism

  • Severe cardiovascular, hematological, or respiratory diseases in acute or decompensated phases

  • Urgent surgical situations

  • Fever, severe systemic infections, simultaneous use of strong parenteral antibiotics (in some guidelines for systemic ozone therapy)

In all cases, the decision must be made by a specialist, evaluating the patient’s clinical condition.

Session duration may vary:

  • Infiltrative/local treatments: about 10 minutes

  • Systemic administration: up to 30–40 minutes

The number of sessions depends on the condition being treated and individual response. A common treatment cycle consists of around 10 sessions, twice a week (for many musculoskeletal applications).

Yes, ozone therapy is generally compatible with most conventional pharmacological treatments. No severe interactions are known, but it is essential to inform the physician about all medications being taken to evaluate possible contraindications or precautions.

Yes. Alnitec devices are designed to ensure high standards of safety, automation, control, and precision, compliant with European medical device regulations (e.g., MDD standards).
Each unit is equipped with monitoring systems, concentration regulation, and safety modules. (information based on Alnitec product descriptions)

No. Ozone is an unstable gas that quickly decomposes back into oxygen; therefore, it cannot be stored or transported. It must be generated and used immediately with an appropriate medical generator.

Clinical practice must adhere to the official guidelines of recognized Scientific Societies in each country, which represent the most authoritative source for quality standards, dosage criteria, selection and use of generators, operator training, and risk assessment.
